Your student has a method. This guide gives you one too.

Written for the adult holding SOLVED — parent, teacher, homeschool educator, coach, or counselor. It is not a summary of the kid's book. It maps every tool in that book to the professional frameworks it came from, teaches you enough to coach from evidence instead of intuition, and draws the line between helping and solving it for them.

66 pages. Instant PDF download. Print it, mark it up, keep it beside you.

This changed how I homeschool — not just how I teach problem-solving

“I homeschool my impulsive 8-year-old and my autistic 10-year-old. Most curriculum assumes a kind of straight-line thinking that just doesn’t fit how their brains work — this is the one that made everything click. There’s a whole section on guiding kids through problems instead of just solving things for them. I catch myself doing it now without even thinking about it.”

What's inside

  • Professional framework correlation — how SOLVED maps to 8D, DMAIC / Six Sigma, PDCA, Lean Manufacturing, and SMART Goals, so adults with any background can see exactly what their child is learning.
  • Working knowledge of every tool — check sheets, run charts, Pareto charts, fishbone diagrams, Five Whys. Annotated charts and a completed example of each, so you can ask real questions and demonstrate when your student is stuck.
  • The catchball model — structured back-and-forth that builds your student's thinking instead of replacing it. Includes the sponsor protocol: what to say, what to withhold, and when to let a bet be lost.
  • Microsoft Office pathway — every worksheet becomes a digital deliverable. Excel charts, Word problem statements, PowerPoint report-outs. Software fluency built on real data.
  • Classroom unit plan — a 12–17 week structure with academic standards alignment for math, ELA, science inquiry, and social-emotional learning.
  • Glossary of terms — 34 entries covering every concept in both books, plain language first, professional context second.
  • Common questions — 19 answers to what parents and teachers actually ask. Getting buy-in from a reluctant student. What to do when the pilot fails. When to step in versus letting them struggle. Whether it works alongside your school's existing framework.
  • Every blank worksheet — reproducible, one per page.

Copy the worksheets. That's the point.

Your purchase includes a reproduction license covering every blank template in both this guide and the student book. Photocopy them for your household, your classroom, or your co-op group — no permission required, no per-copy fee. Real solvers go through stacks of them.

One companion serves every student you're working with

One child at your kitchen table, three kids across different grades, or a full classroom — you need one copy of this guide. The method scales; the sponsor doesn't need a second manual.

You do not need an engineering background. Every term is defined when it first appears. By the end, you will not just be the sponsor of your student's project — you will be a second teacher of the method.

For parents, teachers, and coaches of problem-solvers ages 10 to 14 (grades 5 through 8).

One tutor works with one kid at $40–$80 an hour. One Companion works with every kid you teach.
